Ab 1980 erschien die "Axamer Zeitung" als Privatinitiative der Gruppe Ernst Steiger jun.
1985 wurde sie eingestellt.
Ab 1992 bis Juni 2019 erschien dann die neue Axamer Zeitung unter dem Titel "axams", herausgegeben von der Gemeinde Axams.
Nach einjähriger Pause erscheint seit Juni 2020 die Axamer Zeitung unter dem neuen Titel "axamer*in".
