1627 standen in Burgstein 11 Häuser, die zu vier Urhöfen gehörten: Milser Hof, Schnellers Lehen, Nitzen oder Fritzinger Gut und das Dalbinger Gut. Ein berühmter Sohn aus Burgstein ist Ulrich Kneussl, der von 1470-1486 Sekretär und Kanzler des Erzherzog Sigmund von Tirol und Domherr zu Trient war.
